i really like the idea of "quite loops".  my wife (gail - i just hate
the "my wife" thing) and i both suffer from sleep apnea and have to
camp with two CPAPs (breathing machines) which suck batteries dry.  we
can only get two or three nights out of 120 amp/hr of battery.  i
mostly use the generator to charge the batteries.  and i only run it
in the daytime.  the exception to this is that i use it at night to
run an a/c if it's really hot.  g also suffers from a degenerative
disease and can not deal with heat.  but, like i said, you really
can't hear it.

i started with a honda generator which is very quite - at 20 feet it's
53 dB at 1/2 speed, and only 59 dB at full speed.  then i mounted it
with isolated feet in a small trailer.  it is in a small compartment
with a good deal of sound insulation.  i once owned a recording studio
and had one of the sound guys design the thing so that it couldn't be
heard.
