Hi Marc -- I totally agree with you except for the part about the weeping fuel hose. At 45 psi a quarter-inch-long split in 7-mm hose will have about ten pounds of force trying to widen the split and less than a pound actually shoving gas through the existing split. Under the right circumstances that should be well within the range that tape-reinforced RTV should handle. Friction tape (doesn't stretch) would be better than electrical tape, though.
