Subject: Standard to automatic?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I am getting ready to send an 84 parts bus to the bone yard and I am contemplating keeping the automatic transmission and associated parts to replace the standard transmission in my 91. I would however only install it if I were to get around to an engine upgrade. I am considering this for 2 reasons, my standard transmission case is deteriorating away to nothing which is no doubt thanks to our Canadian winters and my wife can't drive stick. I'm thinking that if I upgraded to a Subaru or a Zetec an automatic should be able to push this big boat of mine without too much trouble.

Is this swap possible? Surely someone has done this? One of the biggest differences I noticed was the automatic was connected to the cooling system. Why is that?

Cheers, Gerry www.vanalong.com
