Rod, I think that's the stock configuration for the early vanagon. The fuel return line comes from the pressure regulator up the driver's side of the van and connects on that side to a 7mm inlet pipe on the tank. The fuel pump (passenger) side leaves the tank via another 7mm outlet pipe to the stock cube shaped pre-pump filter with 7mm inlet and 11mm outlet. This connects to the 11mm fuel pump inlet via a short (2"'?) hose.

I have installed the Bus Depot tank on an '85 and it was a direct fit. That van was later totalled and I put the tank in my '91. I used the pre-filter to adapt the 7mm to 11mm difference between the tank outlet and fuel pump but I'm still looking for a hose that will do this.

One recommendation I'd make is to degrease the outside of the tank and spray many coats of 3M rubber undercoating, or maybe Rhino bed liner, both top and bottom with emphasis on the bottom.
