Unca Joe and I have been talking of this.

He has come up with a cross reference table that will prove very useful for those owners with auto tranny Vanagons. It significantly increases the potential for auto tranny parts long into the future. This is particularly important given Volkwagens propensity to relegate parts to NLA status so frequently. All it's going to take is one NLA part that is critical and it will pretty near kill reasonable Vanagon ownership because we won't be able to repair the things.

Watch for this cross reference.. I'm pretty sure Unca Joel will put it out there shortly.
