Someone posted a link to a kitchen supply, or some such. I deleted the link, but I ordered and got one of the devices mentioned...a gas ring diffuser, it is called. Google stove top diffuser or gas ring diffuser and you will find a bewildering selection

the one I got is from the above....It works fine but I have to figure a way to put it in place so it just stays put always.. Heavy cast metal. It might be worthwhile to check a bit and find one that fits 'perfectly'..the one I have is a little small, bearing only about 1/4" on the four ends of the dumb westie stovetop grill...It, too, could slip off and tip over, until I figure a way to wire it on or something...Might be easier to find one about an inch bigger in diameter..
