David, you can, you just don't want to pay for it.  Sportsmobile still making nice conversions on Quigley 4x4's, usually Fords.  Reliable (as any Ford is), brand new, but full kit 4wd will perhaps make even a GoWesty syncro van price look reasonable.   http://www.sportsmobile.com/4_4x4sports.html   They hold value as well, just like a syncro.  I won't get into an arguement about which is better finished and equipped to offroad on this list, I've owned 3 full kit syncro's, I have a buddy with a recent sportsmobile, if I had $60k to drop on one today, I'd be hard pressed to decide.  Oh and they probably have a little 2.8kW Onan on them I'd bet, course real men don't need em and all as you've said, but their wives often do.   John
