I'm sure he meant a barrister -- if that's any comfort.  We iggerant
Volks in the antipodes only have one sort and we call them attorneys,
or lawyers in common speech; and he's from the Polyp-pines anyway so
you can't really blame him.

ps -- I'm fondly remembering when I hired an '85 Corolla in
Wellington.  I opened the bonnet and could barely find the engine --
in  US-spec ones the entire engine compartment is filled with
smog-related appurtenances.  Yours actually had a manual choke, which
disappeared in US cars in early(?) '70s.
pps -- I was in Wellington when SDECE sank the Rainbow Warrior in
Auckland Harbour.  If I ever get a chance to come back I will in a
heartbeat.  My only complaint was that I was looking forward to
eating lamb, and my hosts (factors for the Visual Technology range of
VDTs) were horrified and absolutely refused to feed me any.
