I was about to ask what your wants and needs were in a van. (in part involving a possible SO) But since that's not a factor..... Toyschmota vs Vanagon? Go mit der heart. Get what you *want*. It will also fill your *needs*. But .... understand that you will be wrenching on your Vanagon unless you have money to pay someone to do the work. But.... you can have a lot of fun with it and it will haul stuff blahbiddy blah blah. Just do the research and inspect it well. Personally I'd suggest an '86 or later. IMO, if the maintenance is done on time, and possibly some preemptive work too, I really doubt it will ever leave you high and dry. Neil.
