I had all kinds of shifting problems - noisy shifting, stiff, pop-out,
difficulty getting into first - then tranny locked up in reverse.
Couldn't get it out. Solution?? I rebuilt the shifting mechanism from
front to rear. It got a new shift arm mounted on the side of the tranny.
It got a new bushing and accordion rubber on both sides of the bushing.
Then up front the Shifter Stick got a new set of teflon bushings and
some silicone lube, and the shifter shaft bushing underneath the van
got lubed up and the guide block in the shifter shaft housing underneath
was replaced with one that was in a bit better shape,.
Bottom line for all this work??? - Man!! it sure shifts easy. Near like
new. Well worth the effort and expense.
Just a comment about maintenance. Get it done!! - These vans are getting
old, and any time you can rework a system in the vehicle - do it. It
will extend the life of the vehicle, and give you better performance,
relative trouble free performance, and rarely leave you sitting on the
side of the road at minnight on a dark and stormy night halfway between
Somewhere and Nowhere, USA.
