The "open the tank from inside" method is handy regardless if you have a key or not. i.e. you can more easily fill the tank when dry camping. Fill a jug, pour it in. (thank you Phil Z)

If you're lucky, and live in a "Westy town", your locksmith may have some keys. One might fit. I removed my assembly and took it in to the locksmith. Saved a few bucks that way.
