dear stranded on t day (just another day in paradise here in canada)

being in Salinas you are so very close to gowesty 1 day round trip to get what you need ... may not be the $ you intended to have spent but it is an option ... when my engine failed in the dalles oregon (i know it is likely spelled wrong pronounced worse) wagon works in garden city told me they had to order the 1.9 replacement block from gowesty ... and that 1.9 has some very subtle differences from the 1.6 which became apparent as attempts were made to bolt on fuel pump etc ...

your post mentioned needing to be in the area with ideas ... and although i have only been in the area and am not presently ... ideas are not bound by place good luck to the broken down .. they are lucky they are in a good place to work oh yes .. one other thing ... in Salinas... over in the giant auto mall next to the highway there is a VW dealership ...

it is the first one on the strip ... there is a fellow named Manny .. he is a very good parts man and understands how to source parts by description or dimension .. plus he has an interest in helping people ...

heck he even lent me tools while i repaired a broken v belt right in the lot ... very nice fellow ... yours
