You know your family much better than any of us do. Bonnie and I camped
and traveled all over with our daughter from the time she was born. We
backpacked with her before she could walk, one of us carrying her, one
of us the stuff. When she was two, we spent a week camped in the Sangre
de Cristo in New Mexico,not backpacking -- toddlers are harder to camp
with than babies are. But, we started short backpacking trips with her
again when she was five. Sure, kids complain in the car, and you get
really tired of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," but they're kids. There are
lots of other songs to sing with them, too. It's completely up to you,
and how you function as much as how the kid functions. David McNeely
