Are you asking about a "Gel Cell" or "Absorbed Glass Matt" (AGM) battery. There are major differences in the design. Most of the batteries that we would consider are AGM. Basically in these batteries there is no free liquid. The electrolyte is absorbed in the matting between the plates. They usually can be mounted in any position except upside down. They do have some means of venting. They do need to be carefully discharged and charged and if they vent they will dry out and fail.

Anyone ever had an "Negative Experience" mounting these on their sides. They claim not to spill, But what about leakage. I think I can get a larger battery this way but not sure about installing it on it's side.Any insight would be helpful.
