You might have an overheating problem, since it was previously cooled by the constant stream of air from the fan. Probably not, though (Toyota uses little freestanding coils that run red hot if they're not in the heater stream These are physically much bigger and cored with ceramic) but it's possible that the mfr spec'ed them taking the airflow into account. I presume you're talking about mounting it outside? If not be sure *it* doesn't melt/burn other things.

Anything of the right resistance or near it, and sufficient power-handling capacity will work fine. 1.4 ohms tapped at 0.7 ohms. Maximum power dissipated by the resistor will be about 75 watts or less by rough calculation based on measured full-speed draw of the motor which is 12 amps. The 0.7 controls the middle speed, the 1.4 the low. Yours, David |
