No, you are not crazy.....err you do realize that you are asking this question to a bunch of Vanagon owners! If you will use the van to its capabilities enough then go for it. If not you may want to consider other options that are more economical. We need the room a Vanagon provides weekly for trips to the dog park(two Great Danes), Costco runs(we own two stores that need supplies), Winter outdoor activities(gear hauling), Summer outdoor activiites(more gear and people), house or rental property projects, etc. If it were not for this I would drive something more economical or bike as the house, work, stores, kids school, etc, are within a few miles of each other.

I have been doing this for a few years now though I alternate between two vans. In the Summer I drive our Westy Syncro and in Winter the 7 passenger Sunroof Syncro. I won't risk the Westy getting hit by bad drivers on ice and the other van is mechanically sound but is not worth anywhere near as much so it will not be as bad if it gets hit. I am saying this shortly after receiving a call from the shop that is working on it today telling me that their tech backed it into a pole! I will see it within the hour to assess the damage and proceed from there.
