I'd like to thank everyone for their honest opinion. A lot of the sentiments mentioned I share with you already. The one that I found rather suprising, in good way, was Scott's inquiry if my wife was on board with the idea. I have to say that she's the one who mentioned a Syncro as an option on a few occasions. But the comment is truly telling of the commitment it takes to nurse a full time Vanagon along. My 84 Westy "Hershey" has performed the task admirably for the last 3 months while my Beetle TDI is waiting for me to quit playing with the bus and replace its injection pump. (Yes, Scott, you were right about that too). I must say i would rather do it myself than make other people's mortgage payments.

Thanks again. With my daughter's upcoming start of college "anywhere but here" and taking her daddy's TDI, a decision shall be made in short enough time.
