If you read the Vanagon list you'd think these things were nothing but trouble too. The big issue with EV's is the crappy transmission that seems to self destruct anywhere from 20K to 120K miles often with no warning. That was my biggest fear when I bought mine so I bought one that is still under warranty, an '03 EV MV with only 57K miles on it. I absolutely love it. I bought it a year and a half ago and love it just as much as the day I bought it. There is no comparison in terms of ride, power and comfort compared to the Vanagon. (Remember though that I have an '83 Westy and some of those Uber nice automatic '91's out there probably ride allot better.) My wife always asks if we can drive the EV to the campground and have it turn into the Westy when we get there. :) In terms of repairs, yeah, parts are absolutely ridiculous for the EV's so that's a downside. I do only about 25% of the work on mine as things are really hard to get to in the engine compartment. I have a friend in the FMBC that has 3 EV's and does all the work himself. He was just featured in the last Limbo newsletter BTW.

My next camper, many years from now, will either be the new Westy that VW is going to build in TN because I write the best darn letters to corporate execs in the world OR an '01 to '03 Winnie.

Ok...trying to involve my better half in the VW experience since my GL is so satisfying. She wants a little more luxury aka soundproofing and I don't know what else. I've just about given up on getting her in the van. Well, you know. I've been lurkin on the Ev list and hearing nothing good. Would like to get a EV Westy Camper (either MB or Winnie) but seems like alot of probs with these vehicles. Not sure of the reason for this post other than the lack of options out there to get a late model camper with the karma of my van...and someone to share the experience with.(besides Jake, the dog). I fear that even an 80K GW would not do it. Someone pimp my ride, please! Michael in San Antonio 91GL AT 'Gringo' 73 Beetle
