Hey Ben - You are the expert so I won't dispute your never seeing a bad oil cooler - however I can tell you from experience that the O-ring goes. Mine blew out a couple of years ago - made a big mess. I replaced it and no more leak.

However, to be clear it leaked Oil - I think this thread said it was leaking coolant.
