I met recently in Frankfurt an old German mechanic returning after 2 years in USA. Joachim-Gottlib (his name) wasn't of great opinion about the service in USA and working habbits. I, he said, hardly escaped nervous breakdown soon after my arrival to USA and then was constantly on the edge of insanity seeing dirt, parts and tools on the floor. Then very few professionally trained employes, mostly kids repeating mistakes of their trainers. I was outraged that the place had only one experienced (?) person controlling bunch of inexperienced employes. Nobody really did mental work and service was haphazard, trial and error, sweating out. Nobody was able to do the work in required time standard and the customer was often charged for work not done. I, myself was not once overcharged. I recall my 1984 Westy driven to Gensinger (New Jersey) dealership ( 3 miles from my home) for coolant replacement. It wasn't done right and the dealer corrected the work after I did show him my Bentley manual. My brother had a station on Long Island (NY) and made a fortune after he sent 2 of his mechanics to MB for training. He bought all professional tools and got great clientele. How was he thanked? Both mechanics soon left renting bays at other places (started working for themselves).

A.M.
