It curious why VW did not offer this on the Vanagon. I do recall my
defensive driving courses back in the 70's where they told you never
to put your car I'm neutral as long as you were moving because you are
not likely to be able to shift into gear when you need to make evasive
maneuvers.

Curious about the statement above. I will test the car just for the
halibut. I do not think it will shift into 'D' by itself. That means
shift before you go when using the 'E' mode. Sort of like Tiptronic in
that there is no clutch pedal but seems to defeat the convenience of
an auto trans. Namely, no shifting.
