Dear Friends

this is a broadcast email designed to cover as many bases as possible so apologies to those who already know some information and apologies also to those newly informed .. it is hard to think of everyone at once ...

as some of you may know on monday night at about 1800h just outside of wamsutter wyoming our beloved VW westie left the road and rolled several times ... black ice was the cause

tin can destroyed completely ... sardines ok (thnx david for that line)

today we went to the wreckers yard to fetch our personal belongings ... virtually all personal goods recovered in except jena s still photo camera ...

we rented a van to go tot the wreckers ... each day of rental ($75)

apple macbook pro .. ..although dented ... works well with an external keyboard from the local radio shack (25$)

finding Wavey our 6 month old cat ... alive and expectantly waiting for us sitting 5 feet from the freeway tarmac poised like the sphinx right at the skid marks where we left the freeway ............... (priceless) +$25 to get vet to give a once over :)

all in all it is a very very good day ... much better outcome that we ever could have expected ...

when i say the van is completely destroyed ... i should point out that every cupboard inside was either smashed or busted or crushed or some how compromised in very subtle ways that were only evident upon inspection ... stuff was even under the fridge component ... rear seat ... the upholstery all has enormous engine oil stains on it ... front seat drivers side head rest is bent passenger side seat just looks uncomfortable like it has lost its form ... both upper cushions ... oil drenched on one corner each rear engine cover cushion ... completely missing ??? ...

port stern rim separated and cracked off at each spoke ... port bow rim in one piece but spindle broke just inside the bearing starboard side appears to be ok but clearly stressed ... all fiberglass either completely destroyed or cracked in many many places ... leading to pieces missing

stern hatch door broke at hinges ... struts on both side broke off at connecting point to hatch

most glass broken and missing except for drivers door glass intact w/draft glass broken

both side markers broken lower grill and front bumper split ... upper grill appeared intact but did not inspect

i have no idea if the tranny case broke but i did find grey water drain at crash site ... i would have to turn the van to see if anything is salvageable underneath ...

my wonderful wife went to night to have her injured /sprained ankle looked at they were not as impressed as they should have been ... it was looking unnice ... ok but looking unnice they redressed and gave instructions for future care until the swelling goes down .. presently we are waiting for jena s parents to arrive .. ETA mid morning ... we will load up and book for ohio eta friday morning .... so unlikely there will be any email until then

Wavey is excellent and happily sleeping at our feet on the hotel bed ... my wife is amazing ... nary a contrary word through this whole episode ...

funny story ... we were listening to sherman alexi ... the absolutely true diary of a part-time indian when we went off the road it was playing off the apple lap top which was sitting on jena s knee when the wrecker s swamper went to pick it up it said "I need a haircut" swamper says he put it down and shouted to the owner of the wrecker ... John its talkin' tah meh whatah do ih do... JOHN !!!!

if you could only hear bob the swamper tell this in his own words ...

aside ... the wrecker guys are wonderful ... they picked up nearly all our stuff ... only missing some of the snow covered bits .. a couple of screw drivers and some other bits ... they also spread our cat food around to entice the missing cat

i say it is nothing short of a miracle and divine intervention in regard to the whole story thanks for all your concern, prayers, good intentions and good thoughts on behalf of my wife ... wavey ... we all thank you thanks for listening yours
