If you are waiting for the blinking coolant LED to come on to tell you the
engine is too hot then it is too late in my opinion... chances are that
once it gets that hot you've already done damage.  If you didn't see
the alternator light on, nor the temperature gauge creeping up then how
long will it take for that person to realize that the light is
blinking.

I am amazed at all these complex solutions people
have for the original question at hand - which was to come up with an
audible warning for when the V belt snaps.  One relay and a buzzer is
all that you need - none of this other crazy stuff involving signal
processors and the like.  No wonder the USA can't get back to the
moon in under 8 years like they did in the 60s - people have forgotten
about the keep it simple way of doing things.
