Yeah, he was a nice bloke. He had clearly been wandering for awhile trying
many cars. FWIW, Vanagons are by no means the only vehicles that suffer this
affliction. I once left a Home Despot with a load of materials, conveyed
them to the company's Ford F150 truck, got in, started it but couldn't find
the stick shift because it was an automatic and not the company truck!
I was not able to unload the material before the owner of the truck arrived.
I explained what thad happened and he laughed because it had happened to him
also. He helped me unload his truck onto my cart.
My best friend is a locksmith and he once filed a key blank for my Isuzu
Trooper into a functional key simply by inserting the blank, twisting hard
to make impressions on the blank and then roughly filing it to shape. It
worked well enough to open the driver's door.
I feel so secure....
