Thanks for all your help. I pulled the switch and tried to rebuild it but it is broken. I will order a new one. The switch keeps sticking in the third position. Where do you recommend I buy a switch from?

Thanks, David

Most likely the electrical part of the switch started to melt. It will need to be replaced. It should be noted that for maximum heat high speed should not be used as all air is outside air. The pictogram to the right shows all levers to the right and the number 2 indicates the position for maximum defrost. To further save the front fan once the vehicle is under way there is little need for the fan as air will flow in as long as the van is moving.

Hi, I have a 1990 Vanagon GL and just recently the knob for the front heater stuck in the number 3 position. It will turn off and back on to number 3 fan position if I wiggle the knob but will not move back to number 2, 1 or off position. Also the knob pulls out of the switch but doesn't look broken. Any ideas how to fix this? I need my heater to work correctly in these cold weather days.

Thanks, David
