I used one to tow an '87 GL behind my Ford Expedition (4.6L V8). I travelled about 100 miles. It was the best $50 I ever spent. The one I rented looked almost new and had surge brakes which made it easy to stop. Definitely don't use overdrive if the Jeep has an automatic tranny.

Does the GL run? If not it will be difficult to get onto the trailer without a come-along or something. I picked up an inexpensive winch at Harbor Freight Tools for under $50. Worked great to pull my GL onto the trailer. I also have a tow-dolly so it comes in handy for that too.

Also, if in a freezing climate, don't even do it unless you know the roads you will travel are nice and clear.
