To that end, I can report that there is a replacement hose available from
Orielly's, and anywhere Gates hoses are sold.  It is a Gates 19663, is about
1" at one end and 5/8" at the other.  I didn't measure the length but it is
about 3 feet long.  I cut it shorter to splice into my newer 5/8" where it
passes down along side the passenger side of the transmission, because full
length would have put the splice near the area of the rear cross-member
where there is a lot of other things going on.

My original hose end near the head, which I had left when I replaced the
rest of the heater hoses was leaking thru pores in it, and so very hard to
track down this leak.  Of course this all occurred over 900 miles from
home.  This was on an 82 diesel westy.
