Now that you mention the coast, if you're considering going as far as Hampton Roads you should probably consider the Outer Banks of NC as well.  If you've never been there is is pretty impressive and there are NP as well as commercial campgrounds (not much for stealth), but it may put you too far east when you get as far south as you want to be.  If you have the time, do it.

I think I might rely some on the RoadFood website - roadfood.com.  They are
all full of info about places to eat local food.


Natchez Trace sounds nice.  Probably not all of it, as I may start by
driving down the coast to Savannah, and at least as far south as the Hampton
Roads area.  But definitely some of it!
