re Anyone know how to tell when Bilsteins are shot? Maybe when the yellow paint turns"rusty" brown?

I put 100,000 miles on a set of four new HD Bilsteins on a 2WD 5 speed TD Vanagon. I felt they had lost their 'crispness' .......they still worked, but they didn't deliver 'magic' like they did the first few years - a perfect combo of nice supple ride, and good control on pumps and dips. They still worked though, and most people would think they were fine, but they'd lost say, 30 % of their magic after 1 00K miles in my seat of the pants estimation. But they still damped.
