George,

I'm an old aircraft mechanic and bush pilot - and owning a Vanagon is much like owning an airplane. They require continuing quality maintenance to keep them running. But then, as a mechanic - that is a principle to be applied to ALL machinery. That said, IF you do/hire the maintenance required to keep the vehicle in top condition, you will find it a rare thing to be broken down somewhere. I have found this to be the case with ALL my vans, and I have owned 5 vans and currently own three. I8t all about the maintenance. Keep it up, and the van won't let you down!.

I don't use it much any more because I'm afraid to go too far from home base. I'm afraid that something will break and I will be stranded in a motel or worse while trying to locate repair parts and someone who is willing to make a repair. That happened once, and I don't want to repeat the experience. > > Are other owners this paranoid? Is there a solution?
