Replace it now or Later on the side of the road. When I get a New to me VW or used Vehicle I look at everything. VW's are Maintenance PIGS. You fail to do it and they will fail on you. Hi have Only had a few break downs that I could not recover from on the side of the road, That required a tow home. There is allot of things to look at on a Vanagon. Bit simpler on a early bay or split, But still need to check everything. The Vehicles where Not used and abused by You from Day one in most cases and All will break no matter what. Just know what to look for and fix it when you find it. Don't wait for failure. Unless your into that sorta thing. I Fix, Repair, Replace, Rebuild, Tweek, Tuck, Torture, Inspect, Bend, Break and assemble every nut and screw when I take apart and put together my VWs. Then make sure any of the Bits that are prone to break go with me on the road for the Just in Case. If you have the part under your seat you will NEVER NEED IT. If you do not take it you will need it before you know it. C-ya Jonce
