http://www.roadtripusa.com/  Has lots of tips and pointers for interesting places to check out.

http://www.factorytoursusa.com/  The (mostly) free factory tours are a real kick; gives you a good excuse for exploring some region you might not otherwise think of going to.  And the locals you meet on the tour can give you all kinds of tips for their area.

http://www.roadsideamerica.com/   Weird, wacky, amusing...pure Americana.

I've used all those sites extensively in my cross-country travels and give a hearty thumb-up.
