VW put out a safety recall on this a few years back. Dealers installed
the kit for free, that would fix the problem. The recall has expired,
but I think you can still get the kit -maybe. It consisted of two pieces
of aluminum mounted to the roof support frames. These better supported
the AC tunnel and prevented it from falling.

I had the problem back before I learned about the kit, and my fix was
simply to make an aluminum strap that supported the tunnel at each
joint. A single screw on either side held the strap to the seiling and
supported the tunnel. Not perfect nor pretty - but it works, until  had
the VW recall kit installed.
