Vana-goners, I DO NOT wish to start a tire thread here, so please respond only to me, NOT THE LIST. I need to replace aged Michelins for my '84 Westfalia, 2wd, 1.9L Waterboxer, AT. 14 inch wheels. Most of my driving is through the Mid- Atlantic mountains and coast. I do not seek snow and ice-covered roads, but do drive year-round, and often carry boats and gear. Tire Rack recommends one tire: Continental Vanco Winter; they have only one in stock; the price ($75) seems reasonable. My questions: What brand/model do you recommend? Why? What load rating do your tires have. Why? Tread pattern? Year-round vs. Summer or Winter? Online supplier? Is there a reliable way to know the manufacture date before purchase? My tires will age before I wear them out, so I want 'fresh'. Thanks in advance for being a big help.
