I changed the relays in the engine bay (this on my '88) and thought it was fixed, nope. Ordered an ignition switch, then discovered the real problem. Wires from the alternator were overheated, poor connection. Soldered new ring terminals on, and the result is brighter lights, reliable starting, better battery charge.
