Jim,
You're absolutely correct. I just used the term "moon cap" to stay
consistent within the thread. Dog dish is more common among the VW crowd
(particularly the air-cooled folks). Moon cap reminds me more of the moon
disks the hot rodders used.
As for chrome hubcaps being stock on early Vanagons... you're right. As
soon as I sent that email, I remembered that many of the early Vanagons
(air-cooled & diesel) had those caps.
As for WBX'ers... In 25 years of working on 100's of Vanagons, I've never
seen one that came with chrome hubcaps from the dealer. Not saying it isn't
possible, but extremely unlikely. It's one of the "upgrades" that just sort
of came with the Vanagon, whether you wanted them or not.
Cheers from really rainy, really windy Sacramento,
Jeff

I don't know what you are referring to as moon caps, but I have always
thought of them as the chrome dog-dish that snaps onto the wheel lugs
but does not cover the row of vent holes at the wheel's perimeter. In
other words, you see the paint. My 83 camper and every other diesel
camper I have seen representing itself as stock has had these one it.
