Subject: Multi-use Vanagon - GL to Camper and back to GL
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

One of the three Vanagons I have will eventually become a camping vehicle. Actually, one is used for camping already, but nothing in it is attached or affixed to the vehicle. I just throw in what I need for a particular trip, and go for it. In the eyes of many - this doesn't make it a camper, but more like "sleeping in the car". I disagree, of course, but even so I want to make my van more "camper-like". I thought for a long time I might install a pop-top on it, but finally decided against that. I would like to ad some other things - like maybe a stove, fridge, heater. I want to keep the full size sleeping area in the back, so no clothing and storage cabinets. Having a portable table to mount in the center at times would be nice. As would some more internal lighting. But having power to drive the electrical items - particularly the heater, will be significant.

I'm going to need a couple of good deep cycle batteries. So my question is - what batteries would be good for this, and - is there a web site somewhere showing such a set up and it's installation.

Thanks,

John
