Mark,
So, temp 2 sensor was shorted or grounded to the case. That's great news!
Thanks,

Well, we have made it to Key Largo. To make a long story short, the Temp2
sensor was sending bad data to the computer, and starving gas. Thanks to
everyone for your suggestions, which led to this root cause, helped me solve
other issues I didn't know I had, such as the idle position switch, and
helped me learn a bunch about my bus in the last 48 hours, which was exactly
the time it took to sort it out.
Based on yesterday's efforts, and your input, I disconnected the Temp2
sensor this morning, and drove 35 minutes to Enrique Neufeld's Wizard shop
in south Miami. Enrique didn't need to do any more troubleshooting, just
replaced the sensor, and the bus started behaving, but while we were there
he also did some minor recalibration on the AFM as well. Enrique made room
in his shop immediately when we arrived, and got us back on the road
quickly. This is a great shop, and Enrique has been fixing VW's at this
location for over 30 years. It was worth the trip just to spend a couple of
hours with him.
If you are in South Florida next weekend, you should take in VolksBlast
2010, which kicks off Friday afternoon with a BBQ at the Wizard's location.

Thanks again for all your help. I hope not to call for help again on this
trip!
Mark

Sometimes just unplugging and re-seating the connector can help too. Easy
to do.
Pensionerd.
