Yes, I've thought about that. (Returning to the scene of the crime) I have
my van back where it spent the first 6 and 1/2 years that I had it. Right
next to my garage near a motion-sensing flood light and within 10 feet of my
bedroom window. Of course, locked and with a steering wheel lock. About a
year and a half ago, I gave that spot to my daughter's car because we live
at the end of a cul-de-sac and curb space doesn't exist. I didn't want her
parking down the block late at night and then walking home. Now she parks
directly behind my vanagon. (Try to drive it away now!) We'll have to play
musical cars from time to time but it's better than what I've just been
through!

I don't want to start another security thread, but something to
consider is the fact that many thieves will often return to the
vehicle to "finish" the job. I would think about a fuel pump kill
switch, if for nothing else, peace of mind that your Multivan won't
get stolen again. My wife's car, when we lived in San Francisco, got
broken into a total of 11 times and stolen once in a period of less
than 5 years. At least 4 of the break-ins were "return trips" for the
thief. He knew where the car was and that there would be a new(er)
stereo in it two weeks later. Break -ins are bad enough but having
your Vanagon stolen would be horrible. A kill switch is a simple way
to prevent it from happening (again).
