You can do those things with some difficulty but you have to take out the dash and remove and open the heater box and blower assembly to do it.

Check out Karl's method. It's easy -- he says one 3/8" hole but I suggest you'll have an easier time with two half-inch ones, one to light through and the other to look/shoot through. A stepped sheet-metal drill works beautifully. If it doesn't cure the problem you're not out very much. Remember that the bearing is much higher than the hole; you have to look pretty far up. Also, Karl recommends closing the hole with a plastic cap, but I think that as long as you get paint on the bare metal actually closing the hole(s) isn't very important since they're seeing about the same ram effect as the rest of the input duct. That's assuming they're behind the plastic inlet screen, which I'm pretty sure they are. I did this a week ago, you'd think I'd remember.
