At least one list member who is a professional VW Vanagon mechanic highly recommends the Fram TG (but not the cheaper Fram) filter for Vanagons, and a large review of available oil filters (not necessarily for WV) found the Fram TG to be superior to most others. A search of the recent list archives (last few weeks) will turn up the thread containing this information. In fact, the mechanic I speak of specifically preferred the Fram TG over Mann or Mahle filters. Hmmmmm .......... . Consensus longstanding list wisdom seems to heavily favor the Mann and Mahle filters. Is that a case of long entrenched beliefs being difficult to change, or is the conventional wisdom wiser than the one mechanic?

Is your Fram a Fram TG, or a Fram cheapy?
