I'm not looking to continue this debate but $16k for a Wesfalia in '72 seemed a lot to me as well. According to this http://auto.howstuffworks.com/volkswagen-bus6.htm a '79 Campmobile cost $8k. So I would suspect that 7 years before the price was not double that.
