In the good old days when I was doing a lot of flying, we pilots always
operated the flying machinery using checklists for safety - prefilght
checklist, startup checklist, run-up check list, take off checklist -
cruise checklist - approach checklist, landing checklist, etc, etc, and
finally after landing and parking, a shutdown check list. Then and only
then would we depart the airplane. Operational checklists are a good
application for our vans as well - and shutting that radio off would be
part of a shutdown checklist. Turning the radio off could be the next to
last item on the list - locking the door being dead last.
