It certainly not normal based on my experience with T3''s (Vanagon type vehicles). Have seen an aircooled T3 Syncro but that was not original either. Also had a T25 (UK Vanagon) Singlecab inline-4 with a Weber which wasn't normal. Before that, it was in aircooled. Not normal. Coolant pipes replaced with hoses. Not normal. Perhaps a PO put the cables in. It doesn't sound normal. PNV = ParaNormal Vannie
