makes sense.

I kinda think it doesn't matter too much which lower arms they have these days, as long as all the parts all match correctly.

I do think earlier vans feel more lively and tossable though, but it might not just be the lower arms. and I can't say I've driven a non-PS Van with cast lower arms Maybe they feel more lively in the handling too., or maybe not.

I've been wanting to put the later brake parts on an earlier van too. let us know how it turns out.

Cast iron lower control arms were left on the donor as I could not remove the bolts. Going with just the brakes and uprights which have the BJ in them, and they are both shot.

There was a thorough and heated discussion on the list about the merits of cast iron vs pressed control arms at some point in the past. Having owned Vanagons with both types of arms I elected not to continue pursuing that part of the upgrade.
