the upper plastic part of the oil filler tube does not easily come off as far as I know. I recommend just leave that along.

just undo the two 13mm hex nuts or bolts that hold the whole oil filler tube to the block, underneath. the inner one is a little trcky ... but very doable.

unless you take the engine and trans out together as a unit, you need to take the oil fillter tube off this way.

Unless you want to mess around with attaching the upper plastic part back on after forcing it to come off., Just do it the right way.

on the temp sender question. I wonder if you are talking about a 2WD 2.1 waterboxer which has 2 two contact sensors on it, and is plastic, versus a metal t-stat housing that's on a sycnro 2.1 engine .... which has a single contact screw-in sensor for the temp guage.
