The ABA has oil jets from the factory. And the design load of the ABA bottom end has a factor of safety of at least 2-2.5.

Nope. You might try one of the Rabbit/Golf hop-up sites.

VW paid really good engineers a ton of money to maximise the output of that motor. Don't you think that if another 25 ft/lbs was right there they would have done it? That's where most folks want their power, off the line, not up at 6500 RPM.

Aftermarket cams always move the torque peak higher, thus adding horsepower (HP = torque x RPM/5252) but at the expense of flexibility.

If you want more bottom end you'll need to add displacement - you could do that with a supercharger I guess, but then you'd be exceeding the design loads on the wrist pin bushings and rod bearings.

Go ahead and add oil jets to cool the pistons, an external oil cooler to cool the oil and an engine compartment fan to keep temps down.

Having raced cars for a while, I went through that circle quite a few times...its challenging and fun, if time-consuming and expensive, and these days I prefer my street cars to be a little easier to drive!@ =)
