the starter only hums, and doesn't crank the engine ?

and you are sure you are sending 12 volts to what I call the 'trigger terminal' on the solenoid ? it's a push-on spade connector. you remove the medium large red/black wire from there, and connect you're remote starter switch to that spade terminal, then push the button.

should go -click, rrrr, rrrr'. if it doesn't try the hammer whack trick.

if that doesn't make it go ... besides the starter itself, consider battery strength and state of charge, battery terminals , and ground strap at the front of the transmission.

I often test them next out of the van , like on the floor with jumper cables and a good battery ... though without a bushing to support the nose of the starter shaft.....you shouldn't really do that.

if you want to look inside it, they come apart fairly easily. What's inside can vary from 'oh my gosh this looks awful, how did it even work at all' ........to 'sure looks almost new in here.'

Not a problem. Well I added a remote switch. From the alternator to the solenoid gave it the best wacks that I would, it just humms. I am not sure what that is telling me? Starter weak? Thanks Kevin
