A few pointers. That small o-ring is for the drain space between the two seals. The seals need to be positioned so that any oil goes past a lip drains out. Replace the seal on the governor shaft. ATF getting into the differential is usually caused by this seal. Check the ring and pinion shafts/bearing for proper adjustment. The pinion shaft position and bearing preload is set with shims. The ring gear carrier is set by the adjusting rings. Dennis -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Peter T. The Bentley makes no mention of it in the 2.1 Automatic section on 29.50 and 39.51. When ordering parts, I asked a lot of questions and thought I had all the seals/gaskets in the kits and individual orders but this little guy is not around. Kind of stopped us in our tracks as I don't want to use a 21 year old O ring over again. Do I have to get that at the dealer? Either way, was a fun bus day in the barn. More work to come.
