Another excellent alternative is to change the power source for the chime
from the ignition lock to the headlight switch.  Much more useful to have a
warning that you left your headlights on.

I guess it's because I work on vans, and I want to be able to keep the key
safely in the ignition switch most of the time while working on them...
and given that ........there is only one proper 'repair' for the key/door
chime.

leave the thing beeping .........drop down the fuse box, find that mutha,
and jerk it out of there !
Save in glove box for the next owner.
At least 9 out of 10 Vanagon  owners  I've asked have  said they'd love to
not have that obnoxious and government mandated thing removed from  their
van.
